SO YOU'VE HAD
READY TO AUTHENTICALLY INTEGRATE ALLYSHIP INTO YOUR LIFE?
Right now, the world as you've chosen to see it has changed.
Current uprisings (in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic no less) have brought racial disparities, injustices against the Black community, and flaws in our current systems to the forefront. In the midst of this uncertainty, hope, fear, and change, each of us has to decide how we will show up.
What have you decided?
BY NOW YOU'VE:
added books by Black authors and/or about Black people to your reading list
updated your Netflix queue with films such as 13th, When They See Us, and The Help
posted your black square on Instagram with #blackouttuesday (and maybe even a brown fist emoji) to signal your support
scrolled through your phone and texted Black colleagues, friends, and associates to see how they're doing
watched celebrities, influencers, business owners, and major corporations release statements to varying degrees of applause and critique
AND NOW THAT THE TRENDING TOPIC HAS DIED DOWN, YOU'RE WONDERING WHAT CAN (AND SHOULD) YOU—A REGULAR, EVERYDAY PERSON—DO MOVING FORWARD.
Imagine if you could...
Have a space to really process everything you've seen, read, and learned these last few months
Begin to intentionally reflect on the feelings of guilt, shame, helplessness, and confusion that have popped up during this awakening
Figure out your role in the "new normal" moving forward
Know exactly where to focus your time and energy so that your commitment to anti-racism becomes part of your everyday life
Have strategies and tools to have these conversations with the people in your life who may not "get it" yet
Why this workshop
As a Black woman in America, I've been on a rollercoaster of emotions as I watch the nation go up in flames as some begin to acknowledge what I've known my entire life and as others argue whether or not the lives of people who look like me matter.
As I read post after post and statement after statement, I recognize that, for many White people and non-Black people of color, this may be the first time you've truly ever had to confront your role in a society that wasn't designed for everyone. And while most of the focus right now is on the response and actions of celebrities, "influencers," politicians, and businesses, I know that in this movement there needs to be a space for everyday people to move beyond feelings of guilt, shame, and overwhelm so you can identify your greatest possible impact and naturally integrate what you now know into your life, especially now that the topic is no longer "trendy".
